One of the best classes I have taken in a long time!!!
It was a small class, so we were able to accomplish ALOT quickly!!
This is my Gracie...I had a bit of trouble getting the shading to "pop" her chin...I will post a final photo when I am done.....
Katie busy sewing away....Is it Caesar or her husband???
And there is always one in the class that sets the bar....that would be Judy ---She expierimented with 2 different colorways....The results were amazing....(I prefer the more natural coloring...)
Nancy will have an exhibit of her work and her students---This week at Fabric-Chicks, displayed during the SHOP HOP-Don't miss the excitement, surprises and specials planned at all 12 quilt shops this Thursday-Sunday.
Nancy is scheduled to teach another "art" class in October---We will be learning different techniques of painting on fabric....You won't want to miss it.......Beth

I am not sure where the time has gone...Summer is already coming to a fast end...Time to get the kids ready for School and Football (which takes over our lives----the longest 3 months of my year...If you have had kids in Pop Warner- You know what I mean..)
Highlight of July----Lots of Classes and Sew days...Most exciting was the
FREESTYLE ART QUILT Class...
The class was taught by Nancy Ryan!!
Many have commented that it looked to hard and over their heads...Trust me its not....But it is definitely a new technique, different than we are used to...I was busy and didn't take the class---I will definitely take the next one....which is going to be the Portraiture class Aug 22-25...I don't want a quilt of myself, so I am doing (I think a photo of Gracie when she was little...), some are doing photos of their animal others are doing their grand kids and 1 person is going to do Marilyn Monroe---The techniques will be amazing- You don't want to miss this class.
Next week is our 5th Anniversary Party August 10th!!!
We will have 4 guests from out of the area with trunk shows and make and takes!!!
More info soon!

Ok....I know I said I would give you a behind the scenes of the Reno Sewing Expo...but it came and went and I forgot to take photos---SO Really, I promise---Next show I will write it on my hand...or forehead or something!!
So, for now you get the quick and condensed version---Most shows we go to charge each vendor between $75-$115 for the use of their electrical....so I decided to buy a solar battery and give it a try...
My first Question of the morning 5:30am (definitely wasn't a girlscout--)...how does the plug of my cash register fit in here???? When I could finally get ahold of a real person it is a universal plug it just goes in sideways (learn something everyday!!)...For those vendors looking for an alternative...This worked fabulous-----I highly recommend it- www.goalzero.com (you can take it camping too!)
Next we loaded and packed 2 trucks....once piled high with goods, we have to climb on top with the spiderman netting (its pretty entertaining)!
Tuesday Judy and I spent the day hanging quilts for the Fabric-Chicks Exhibits, The Creative Crones Display, The Sierra to Sage Shop Hop Display and the Chairitable Affair Challenge display...and the Winners are
1st place- Donna Greenwald 2nd Place- Janet Lockett 3rd-Barbara Harmon
Wednesday we set up our booth and Thursday, Friday and Saturday the show was open to the public....I am really sorry I don't have photos of the show as it was a FABULOUS show. Most have commented that they really needed two days to be able to see all the Vendors, Displays, Make and Takes, and Free Venues (not to mention all the classes!) So mark your calenders now for next year!
The show closed each night at 5 and I rushed to Devons games that started at 5...Baseball every night after the show---I was exhausted!!!
This is Devon--Living it up after a hard day of helping run the cash register at the show-Short Stop at the All Stars game...Whats better than Room service and Marathon night of Duck Dynasty?????What more could a 9 year old ask for????

And Gracie Girl just recieved a trophy for her gymnastics!!!
Tomorrow we will take you behind the scenes of what it takes to get ready and set up for a Big Sew, Craft and Quilt expo.....Remember you can still sign up for classes....and everyone who likes us on facebook will receive a 15 % off coupon to the the shop!!
Please mark your calenders for

Once again it is time to get this blog thing updated....As usual we have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off---ok maybe a bit graphic...but.....
We have been on the road doing quilt shows from the Bay Area to San Diego for the last several months.
We just have one more next week in Reno http://qscexpos.com/reno.html---Then a whole month off (well not really off, that is when we try to catch up on all the things we have put on the back burner and get ready to start all over again August - October)!! Anyhow Fabric-Chicks just sponsored our first annual retreat at Lake Tahoe with Donna Greenwald. Thank you to Donna and all the ladies who attended it was a true pleasure, the creative energy was amazing---I am looking forward to next year!!!
Donna as always did an amazing job creating this Lake Tahoe scene for our first retreat project. She is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Her techniques are very different and she is able to make the process easy for all skill levels. The dimension is amazing and so realistic.
We stayed at the Presbyterian Conference Center at Zephyr Point. Our facilities were right on the lake--It was gorgeous and so peaceful.
Here is a photo of many of the ladies and their tree trunks--It was fascinating to see how different they all turned out. Love the texture magic and the fibers....
There were many ladies that have taken several of Donnas classes in the past, and several of them opted to work on their own projects or other patterns of Donnas...It was so inspiring to see all the different techniques and ideas. Everyone was so helpful and shared their techniques and ideas.
Not often you can really surprise someone!!!
Gracie joined us for a night -it was hard to keep her out of the freezing water--when it was so sunny and beautiful outside.
that is it for now----call us to get your name on the list for Fabric-Chicks 2014 Retreat with Donna--We haven't received the final contract yet, but we will let you know the exact dates as soon as we know.
Have a fun time being creative--Beth
