Portland has a lot of wonderful places but one of my favorites is CARGO. I have more fun in that store then a kid in a toy store.
For one thing, this place has soooo many colorful and interesting things to examine and touch. Things from all over the world just waiting to spark an idea.
Fabrics, pottery, paper goods.....the list goes on and on. When we first came here I bought some pieces of furniture here. The clerks here are all heavily invested in every item they sell. I come in regularly so they know me and endure my show and tell because when I puchase something here it's usually to make something else. There are some fabulous things for journaling. And the last time I was here I picked up a killer pack of scraps from Japanese clothing. I am still fiddling with my options.
This is one of the end destinations for our workshop in July.
Carts full of colorful rugs and matts made in Africa. Every house needs several.
Here is what I gathered but then I only had a half hour. The gold obi piece is spectacular but I doubt I shall be able to cut into it. However I told them I would do something and bring it in so I may have to close my eyes and cut, like some great sacrifice to the gods of art. The little hand dyed paper bags are for our workshop. I plan on filling them with one of the essentials of life, chocolate!
Wish they had one of those near me! Looks like a fun place to go!

I can see where this place would send you into creative orbit with all the bright colors! I bet the sale folks love it when you come it! There's no telling what you might say or do - so the unexpected keeps them on their toes! It has to be a highlight of the day!
