We just received the official invitation to my Granddaughter's wedding. She will be married at the Manti Temple in Southern Utah on May 12, 2012. I asked Ellie what colored quilt she would like and she asked for an all white quilt. As you will recall, this was a mountain to climb for me; however, it is done. It was quilted by Bonnie and her husband at The Quilter in Vancouver and bound with a small floral in beige and white. I am quite pleased with the outcome.
Here are some shots of it. My sister found it amazing that there were so many colors of white. That's what made it fun to make. When you think of white, you don't always take into account the wonderful different shades of the color. And then there are different textures and fabrics that one can use. I embroidered the names of the bride and groom and the wedding date with a few florishes. The yoyos are intended to be balloons which have a special meaning for them.
I call this kind of quilt a ceremonial bed quilt, intended to be put on the bed when company come. It's not the sort of quilt you let the kids throw up on or the dog and the cat to nest on. Since every handmade gift has strings attached, I told Ellie about those strings and she was willing to care for it.
And in order for that to be possible, I made an envelope bag using a small handmade white table cloth I found at the Goodwill and some stripped reproduction 40's closet fabric. No plastic bags for Ellie. I am so excited to take it to her shower. I know, I know I am showing off! It's just shameless!
That is Wonderful, elinor! I know she will cherish it!

It's a beautiful quilt and Ellie will just love it! And of course, aren't you just so clever to come up with an envelope bag!
