I love it when I have an idea and I can make it happen. My daughter Rachel is having a birthday on Sunday and I wanted to give her something special. Rachel loves creating and sewing so I wanted to give her something that would inspire her in her work. As an artist myself and a compulsive gatherer, I have given considerable thought to display. For me, if it's out of sight, it is out of mind , as the saying goes. Color, texture and pattern matter very much in the creative process, so I arrange and sort my things too get the maximum charge from looking at them. I went wild over an idea of using glass salt and pepper shakers as containers for buttons and beads. While I was in Montana I snagged a box full of vintage rickrack and seam binding. I went on a search for something to display them on. What I found was a cardboard scrapbook with rings. It wasn't exactly what I congered but it actually turned out to be much better. I wrapped two of them with a selection of rickrack, one for Rachel and one for Laura. I figure if they never made a thing from the collection it would be great to look at. I found a small glass spice shaker and filled it with buttons, made one of those spools for ribbon and created a pin cushion. I put all I could squeeze into a magical tin which I could pass on. Happy Birthday, Rachel and God grant you joy and strength.
The large spools came as an idea when my partner, Beth, said she didn't really have a good way to display ribbons. I saw the answer in a Stampington magazine as I pointed out in a past entry
Time for you to discover what's under the bed, in the closet, in a drawer, or stuffed in a bin in the garage. Love epb
You are the one who has the eye to find all those goodies in closets, drawers or under the bed! Another fine idea!

What a great idea! My ribbons and trims are all thrown in a drawer, which has to be dumped everytime I want to see them.
