Big Sky Country. There is nothing like it. I just came back from Kalispell in the north western part of the state to visit my long time friend, Joan Hodgeboom, who owns The Quilt Gallery there. I have been there many times and I love it. Seeing Joan is always a treat because we go into a frenzy of making things in her studio which overlooks the forest and the mountains. Her husband Fred retired from the Forest Service and has a passion for geology as does Joan so we spend time enjoying the majestic scenery and watching wild life as well.. I am not the best photographer but I think I had some good luck here.
Besides these stately elk who seemed content to be admired at a very short distance, we saw hawks, a Pilliated and a Downy woodpecker, dainty Canadian sparrows, wild turkeys that the dogs barked into flight, geese and a flock of swans. Joan and Fred attract the birds with suet and seeds so we could watch them out the window with our breakfast.
I have seen one or two swans together but a whole flock? Be still my heart.
This is the view from the dining table. What a wonder is God's nature and I a spectator.
WOW! What an amazing place to live! Absolutely beautiful! And the elk are standing in snow! EGADS - the thought of dealing with now right now! I think you did a great job taking pictures. It sounds like you had a grand time with your friend, but when don't you? Welcome home.
