I asked my Granddaughter, Ellie, if she could have a quilt, what color would it be? She replied "White on white". She admitted that she was hesitant in asking me because so much of what I do is COLORFUL. But then, I considered the challenge of it. When you think about it, there are many shades of white but more important.......there are many textures and that it what makes this challenge fun. So I began to collect...piles upon piles upon piles. Lace, ribbon, doilies, stripes, solids......if it caught my eye, it ended up in the pile.
Next I had to decide how I was going to construct this quilt. I knew I was making a queen-size quilt so it had to be about 90" x 108" (approximately). I decided to make it in strips....7 of them. Each would be 12" x 108".
Here are three of the strips. Each strip is different so it like a mosaic, spreading the crazy patch up and down the strips for focus and interest.
I am really enjoying this project. I don't know that I would want to live with it but I would definately like to visit it. After the piece is quilted I will be adding additional embellishment. I'm thinking a bit of beading and some flowers and yoyos.
That is going to be beautiful! She will love it! What a special gift!
