Meet SWEET HARPER AND THE CLOWN. These are two new creations in preparation for my trip to Kallispell, MT in March. Joan Hodgeboom and I play dolls while I'm there and in honor of our friendship I made these dolls. The name Harper is a tribute to my granddaughter, Harper Sanders, who lives in Utah with her four older brothers. She loves to draw and has a definate mind of her own, just like her mother Rachael. The clown is her make believe friend. He was created from layered fabrics starting with hand painted Stabalized Fabric by Jacquard. The second layer was netting and organza. The third layer is lace stitching and beads. The shoes are red wool felt. The doll form has infinate variations and this time I used a droplett shape to add visual weight. The joints are floppy, felt beads and buttons. The head sizes vary, a small head on the clown to create a dreamlike state and the larger head on SWEET HARPER to creat the head body ratio of a child.
Bulky trim, two quilted skirts, over sized buttons, yoyo hair and a pony tail out of netting, I added every chunky bit I could manage. Joan won't have any of the detailing as she is fundementally more direct than I am. She rides a Harley after all. Her shop is fabulous, she has a great eye for fabric but she doesn't do fluff except when I come and then we play dolls. Go figure. The two dolls have a bit in common and then a bit for themslves to set them apart. Hey Universe... this old broad still makes dolls. She does it for her friends. Love epb
Love them both! So cheerful and colorful--beautiful and happy!
