There is no better reason for creating a new bag then wearing out the old one. Besides I am leaving for Virginia to see my daughter Laura Gunn and she's an artist and therefore fun to share with. And so I had to begin. I cut out a 5/8 yards of flannel and started laying out pieces radiating from a center composed of Laura's brand new gorgeous bird print. I was feeling purple. I have a collection of exotic fabrics I call "jewelry". That gives me access to plenty of texture.
Here's the back, you can the seam. I lined the 5/8 yd with another 5/8 yd piece, a stripe by Kaffe Fasset. I put a large pocket which I divided into two spaces. Then I stitched the two pieces together leaving an opening to turn. After that you just paper bag the bottom and add a casing and handles. I put elastic in the casing and added ball fringe.
Is this not to die for? I can't wait to show it to the guys at check in. They all know me. I don't really need a new bag to be excited about seeing my Grandchildren but it makes me feel pretty spiffy none the less. That would make me a spiffy crazy grandma!
Okay, I've finally figured out that I have a problem with random. I love it but I have a hard time doing it. When I start trying to make a crazy quilt block, I over-think and find myself making it really "design-y" (is that a word?). What I need to do is study your bag and your journal work and try to get "in the zone" where I my inner critic can't reach me to tell me, "Don't put that with that! Don't make this patch so big and make it rounder?" When I can tell my inner critic to just shut up, maybe I'll be free.

Ah the critic, so hard to fight. Laughter helps, thus refusing to take her seriously. Perhaps the anxiety you feel when something is a bit off could be called excitment. Leave it random for a while, leave it just before you yield to the critic and make the piece simetrical, balaanced, decorATOR. I'd love to see some of your work, see what you're talking about

Oh my gosh - the bag is fabulous! Check in guys will love it. Please make it a kit, because you know my black and white banking brain cannot do it alone. I struggle following your doll patterns! Have a good trip and enjoy your family.
