Elaine Frenett and I are having a journaling conversation. Since we will be having a workshop together in July (11-14th of this year), we thought we ought to get to know each other by talking in the manner we know best. First I purchased a spiral bound watercolor book from David Smith Art Supply. I spread the pages and did a drawing which I sent to Elaine. After that, Elaine played with my drawing and she sent me the above. Isn't it fabulous? Her skill and use of watercolors is so impressive. What an honor to respond.
I attached a jointed arm and hand. In the hand I placed a paper doll, skirted with toulle. Of course, I had to add a doll. In addition to my furthering the conversation, I promised her a page of my own. This is what I sent and out popped a poem to go with it.
If I walk into your garden, would you paint for me a chair?
Would you shade it with a fruit tree so I could linger there...
While I listen to the bird's song and rested there a while.
Would you paint for me a red, red rose,
And coax from me a smile?
As the day waxed into shadow and the night began to fall,
I would seek to enteratin you ,
I would call upon my dolls.
They would dance from every corner.
They'd receit their verses small.
We would laugh and we'd be grateful
To the God who made it all.
Love your ideas....and your writing is great.

Fabulous work! 4 women took a sculpture class from me last August and we decided to write a book together. We take turns writing and the next person takes over where that person left off. So far we have over 100 pages and we all are amazed at where the book has taken us-places we never would have dreamed or guessed before. This strategy seems to work. It's the energy of each person and the momentum that keeps things going.
I hope you will show more of your shared journal in the future blogs.

Dear Cheryl, I just flipped over to you blog and was so impressed. Did you start as a painter or a sculptor because there is a strong relationship between what you sculpt and what you paint and I am going to guess that you started as a painter and then rounded up. I know it's a long shot as you are in Virginia but have you considered joining us for this to do. It would make great chemistry. Thanks for the comment epb
