When I was a young woman, before I made dolls and wore funny clothes, I made a friend. Her name is Cecil Huntzinger. She was creative and generous and very wise. Over the years when I needed counsel, she was there. When I was impatient, she told me it was not my time yet. When I created something, she always enjoyed it. As I said, this was long before dolls and funny clothes, but when that time came, she was my cheerleader, as she has been ever since. During all these years I have never seen her without her hands being busy. She was a gatherer, a wealth of gorgeous fabrics and lace flowed her way and she dispersed it throughout our community. She painted villages and created a home that I never tired of showing off. She has never withheld. She was a conduit. I was not the only soul she inspired. Now her hands are quiet, and her eyes not so sharp. Cecil and Ralph have eight children. A year or so ago she asked if I would make a doll for each of them and I agreed. It took me too long to complete the task but her it is. Cecil has
forgotten her request. She thinks this is just a generous impulse. I wil not tell her differently. Cecil, these are to link us forever. You are a dear friend. Love elinor
Just like you and Cecil, the dolls are precious.

The Huntzinger's were our next-door neighbors when I was a little girl in Farmington, New Mexico. I always looked up to their oldest daughter Linda and wanted to be just like her. We lost touch with them when they moved away, but I will never forget how lovely Cecil was and what a dear friend she was to my mother. Mom died in 1974. I'll bet she and Cecil have a wonderful get-together sometime soon. Those dolls are going to some pretty special people.
