What do you do with scraps of recycled wool, a chopped up sweater and the plaid from men's shirts? Well you make a small quilt using one of your favorite themes "The Plain House". Wool lends itself to the primative and the raw edge of a piece of wool is cozy. Small is fast and fast is in fashion. Small fits in small places and I still have one or two of those. This is close to a bout with a coloring book. I mounted a piece of Laura's polka dots that appear to be painted as indeed they were onto a piece of craft batting. Then I just top stitch and make the branches. Add a blue plaid bird with a wing and a beak. That striped sweater made great tree trunks and a bit of vintage rickrack amd some green lace (the last of it) makes the grass.
Now thw next trick is to lay that chichen fabric which I have been saving on the off chance that I would make those overalls over again. The off chance is off. Lay the fabric over the whole piece and cut out the center with a wavy line. Add a 1/4" hem and needle turn it. Top stitch that with yellow pearl cotton. Now bind the quilt. My brother qipped that he was glad I had dropped the techniclal talk, sorry bro.But the girls need to know.
I love black and brown button when I am doing a primative piece so there they are. Now comes the challenge. Make twelve kits for the Udder Store in Seward Nebraska. Make instructions and a map of the layout, get coping of a picture of the quilt and hope that it sells.
Not the great photo but it does show some detail. epb
